Description
The MLA International Bibliography contains bibliographic citations to critical documents on literature, languages, linguistics and folklore, and includes coverage from 1963 to the present . It indexes journal articles, book articles, dissertations, monographs, and series. Over 3,000 journals and series are indexed annually.
Dates
Each edition of MLA bibliography covers documents issued during or prior to the Bibliography's year of publication. Approximately 60 per cent of each year's MLA International Bibliography coverage is devoted to documents published in that Bibliography's publication year.
Searching MLA
There are several ways to conduct your search.
Searching with Free Text [F2]
It is the easiest way to search, but occasionally retrieves too many or too few records, or out of context records.To conduct a free text search:
1.Press [F2] FIND to display the Find promt.
2.Type a search statemant, such as a word or phrase like drug abuse.
3. Press [Enter] to begin the search. Beginning your search request with an operator (AND, OR, WITH, NEAR, IN) automatically combines your search result with the previous search request.
4.Press [F4] SHOW to display the first record.
Searching Directly from the Index
The INDEX is a list of all terms in the free text (non-limit) fields. You can use the INDEX to broaden a search by finding synonymous terms and to narrow a search by finding more specific terms.
1. Press [F5] INDEX to display the Index prompt.
2.Type a word or word root and press [Enter].
3.Press [ ], [ ], [PgDn], and [PgUp] to browse the INDEX.
4.Move the cursor to the desired term and Press [Enter] to select it. Repeat steps 3-4 to select additional terms .
4.Press [F] Find to search for records containing the selection; SPIRS will combine multiple terms with the or operator.
Searching the Thesaurus
1. Press [F9] THESAURUS to display the Thesaurus promt.
2.Type a word and press [Enter] to display the List of Permuted Terms.
3.Move the cursor to the desired term and press [S] Select Term.
5.If desired, press [T] Term Details to see additional information for each term. It may I include broader terms , narrower terms, and scope notes.
6.Press [F] Find to search for selected terms.
7.Press [F4] SHOW to display the first record.
Searching in Specific Fields
You can narrow your search by looking for a search term in a specific field. For example, smith in au retrieves only those records with Smith in the (AU) Author field.

How to PRINT Search Results (Before you start printing ask one of our librarians from which computer you can print).
1.Press [F6] Print to display the Print options dialog box.
2. If desired , change the options. For example, you can specify certain fields or records to Print. To change the options :
a, Press [C] Change Options
b, Make the desired changes
c, Press [Enter] to accept the changes.
3. Press [S] Start Print to begin Printing records.
How to SAVE Results to Disk
1. Press [F10] and then [D] Download to display the Download options dialog box.
2. If desired, change the options. For example, you can specify certain fields or records to download. To change the options:
a, Press [C] Change Options
b, Make the desired changes
c, Press [Enter] to accept the changes.
3. Press [S] Start Downloading to begin Downloading records.
To interrupt Printing or Downloading, press [Ctrl]+[Break].
